Extensive Speaking, Computer and Phone Technology and Audacity
Audacity is a free, open source, cross-platform software for recording and editing sounds. The advantage of Audacity for a fluency assignment is students can edit audio clips and build an audio file which demonstrates language fluency. For example, a teacher could design an activity which takes a selected oral reading which focuses on the target lexis and have students orally read the text for fluency over a specified length of time. If the editing portion of the task is not desired, this assignment is more conveniently achieved using mobile phone technology.
Relation to Guiding Principles
Principle Four ~ Promote Fluency Development ~ Fluency focused speaking communicative activities in the target lexis are part of an extensive reading, speaking and/or listening program which can use time pressure as a motivator.
